Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English Literature. Mitchell began her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office within the year 1988. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992 and the head Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the show. She joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was the previous chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense from the infringement of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on at the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She covered many notable stories including arms control, taxes on the budget, as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went on various summits while in the company of the president Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
